Computers are faster every day, loaded with more memory, equipped with faster processors.   They enable to run tens of applications at the same time.  Unfortunately, desktop space, Taskbar size and Start menu capabilities are limited and the computer use become less effective with larger number applications installed and running.

The ExeDesk is a new virtual desktop management software that gives a user ability to better arrange both installed and running applications on multiple virtual desktops.

  1. Non-installation package available: It is not necessary to install the ExeDesk to Windows.  Just unzip the distribution zip file on hard drive or other media and run exedesk.exe file.

Version 2.0.0 Beta 1 - February 2, 2006

  1. Support for multiple monitors added.
  2. Default WindowsXP scheme improved (tabs added).
  3. New "Predefined shape" object.
  4. New "File browser" object with tabs to browse multiple folders in one window.
  5. Objects can be grouped for simpler manipulation (copy/paste, move, etc.).
  6. Ability to import/export objects, object group and tool windows added.
  7. Tool windows can behave like menus now (close automatically when focus is lost).

Version 1.1.0 - February 5, 2005

New, changed, fixed:

  1. Windows XP visual style support.  Added "Default Windows style theme" plus it is possible to create ExeDesk themes that always follow the current Windows XP visual style and thus well fit to the rest of the working environment.
  2. Tooltip - it is possible to add tooltip to each object.  So now the tooltip can be different from the object label/text.
  3. "ExeDesk Restriction Manager" - an add-on tool that enables corporate system administrators to restrict ExeDesk functionality and thus make the ExeDesk settings uniform and easier to maintain.
  4. "Go to desktop" -  add-on tool that enables users to switch desktop from other programs/tools/toolbars.
  5. Default font now can be changed by user in main settings dialog box.
  6. German   language support added.
  7. Deskbar can be disabled so that it is not showing at all.
  8. Icons can be optionally fired by single or double-click.
  9. Other minor changes and bug fixes...

Version 1.0.5 - November 21, 2004

New, changed, fixed:

  1. Desktop switching improved so that it is faster.
  2. ExeDesk "Watch dog" added. It is an executable exedesk_wd.exe file that watches if the ExeDesk runs.  If the ExeDesk is shutdown incorrectly, the watch dog offers to restart it automatically.
  3. "Refresh" option added to the "Web control" object.  It allows user to define time interval after which the web control is refreshed.
  4. The program automatically checks if the theme is changed (if the theme file is changed).  If the theme is changed, the ExeDesk reloads the theme automatically.
  5. It is possible to drag ExeDesk objects and drop them on recycle bin in order to delete them.
  6. If a new icon is added to standard Windows desktop, the new icon appears in ExeDesk's deskbar.
  7. Problem with incorrect wallpaper refreshing fixed.
  8. It used to happen that IE windows (and windows of some other types of applications) were unwittingly closed when the desktop was switched.  This was fixed.
  9. And other fixes and changes...

Version 1.0.0 - October 29, 2004

  1. Refresh menu item added to the main menu.  The command refreshes the desktop if it needs to redraw.
  2. Support for other languages added.  Currently English and Czech is available.
  3. Screen resolution per desktop behavior fixed.
  4. Again, fixed the desktop switching problem with FireFox (and other Mozilla products).
  5. And other fixes and minor changes...

Version 0.9.1 - September 17, 2004
New, changed, fixed:

  1. "Auto windows" feature added.  This feature allows user to automatically open/close applications when entering/leaving desktop, automatically move windows to desktop where user wants them and automatically resize and position windows.
  2. The standard Windows desktop wallpaper can be used as the ExeDesk wallpaper.  Synchronization with the standard Windows wallpaper allows users to use any wallpaper changer they used to use (Webshots, for example).
  3. Ability to add icons from the original desktop was added to the startup wizard.
  4. It is possible to enable/disable desktop names showing in the desktop shortcut tabs.  As well it is possible to show/hide text for launch items in the deskbar.  This can be done from main settings dialog box, "General" tab. 
  5. Ability to set a desktop as a "default" one.  The ExeDesk automatically switches to the default desktop on startup.
  6. Ability to rename menus added.
  7. Desktop switching improved.
  8. Object browser functionality slightly improved.
  9. If the ExeDesk crashes then all windows are put back to their virtual desktops on the ExeDesk restart.
  10. Problem with disappearing mouse cursor when CursorXP software was on is fixed.
  11. Problem with (Delphi) debugging applications and switching desktops solved.
  12. Problem with settings dialog box (that, for example, caused that a wallpaper could not be changed in some cases) was fixed.
  13. Improved handling of the child windows opening on desktops other than the main application window resides on.
  14. Fixed the desktop switching problem with FireFox (and other Mozilla derived products).
  15. And other fixes and minor changes...
